Amelija Balvočiūtė was born 5 of February, 1888 in Maigai village Viekšniai parish and was baptize 8 of February in Viekšniai Catolic curch. Parents were peasants Leonas Balvočius and Ona, maiden name Petrauskaitė.  God parents were Antanas Petrauskas and Barbora Petrauskaitė.

Arrived Jan 16 1907 on Ryndham from Rotterdam, travelling with sister Ana / Ona.  Age 18. From "Wecheney".  Inbound to Kazimir Balwocz (later Bauch) at 215 Avenue C, NY.

1876 marriage of my 3x grandparents - Petrauskas and Balvocius - Leckava

Received this great doc from my researcher, Vincas Bundza today. The doc identifies my 3x great grandparents.

A few reasons this is significant for my research.

• Zvingys is a fairly uncommon name.  MindaugasK has Zvingys and the same names in his tree as mine.  He is from Leckava.  We are also a light dna match.
• VirginiaM is a tight dna match of mine.  She is from Maigai.  Her father is a Perminis and her uncle, Jonas, is the one mentioned in http://weekendgenealogy.blogspot.com/2015/04/maigai-near-krakiai-vieksniai-mazekiai.html .
• Also note the number of Norkute living in Maigai.

Year 1876, 15 of May. Priest of Leckava church Bartkevičius registered marriage between peasant Leonas Balvočius, single, 29 years old from Maigai village Viekšniai parish and Ona Petravičiūtė, single, 19 years old from Buknaičiai village Leckava parish Viekšniai eldership.

Son of peasant Juozapas and Ona Perminaitė, legitimate spouses Balvočius and daughter of peasants Petras and Elena Norkutė, legitimate spouses Petrauskas. Witnesses were Kazimieras Šimkus, Antanas Tupikas, Antanas Krūtinis and others.

My trace into this is as follows:

My Healy DNA only goes back in Ireland 5400 years or so

 I ran my Y-DNA on http://www.familytreedna.com .  Yep, definitely a Healy.  See pic below.

My DNA was noticed noticed by a researcher named "bernie".  Bernie is very good at tracing ancient lines and interpreting dna results.  He had met take a "Big-Y" test to further refine my results.  Y-DNA offers you a father to son direct dna pass, m-dna does mom. Big Y fully maps out the chromosome sets so guys like Bernie can understand it further.

A lot of the DNA connections ( Y-Paternal as well as 'cousin' matches ) put me in line of the Kilgarvan Healy-Rae's.  Not exactly Healy-Rae since the Healy-Rae name wasn't  used until the 1940's by Jackie-Rae Healy, but up their ancestor chain.  Jackie Healy-Rae's father, Daniel, and my great-grandfather Dennis were brothers.  Ancestry says Jackie Healy-Rae and are are 1st Counsins 1x removed.  Michael Healy-Rae, is my 2nd cousin 1x removed.  See Michael Healy-Rae in action re DNA here - http://www.dailyedge.ie/michael-healy-rae-late-late-3294284-Mar2017/ .

According to Donal Healy's book "The Healy story: Oidhreacht mhuintir Ui Ealaithe" (  http://amzn.to/2mEbBEr  ) ( good luck getting a copy )the Kilgarvan Healy's are rumored to come from Donoughmore during the penal times after killing a tax collector.  Over the mountains (maybe they even used Healy pass), across the bay, and start farming in Kilgarvan.

Highlights from Bernie's notes. Fascinating stuff!

• According to Wikipedia, the Healy-Reas are Healys from Kilgarvan, Kerry. Several Kilgarvan Healys belong to the I-M26 paternal haplogroup and they are some of the closest matches to my Cullen family, with a common ancestor estimated at 1200 years ago according to Big Ys This mainly Irish branch is called I-Y15581 and includes families named Cullen, Carbery, Healy, Hurley/Murley, Crowley and one family named Felce/Felch/Phelps/Phillips that is English or Welsh, and also one man born in Iceland who believes his ancestor was an Irish slave according to the Iceland histories. Probably the Y-DNA ancestor of all these people arrived in Britain/Ireland sometime between 5,000 and 4,000 years ago, the next closest Y-DNA relative lives in Sardinia. So it's a very Irish branch, and maybe the Healy-Raes belong to it. https://www.yfull.com/tree/I-Z27396/
• Close big Y matches are Healy, Cullen, Crowley, and Felch. Estimated common ancestor 3800 years ago.
• Crowley and Felch families are related to two other Irish super-families: the Cullen/Knox/Carbery/Carberry/McCarbery/Donohue family and the Healy/Haley/Spain/O'Donoughue/Dwyer family. The Healy family is from Kerry and Cork.  The Cullen/Carbery group and the Healy group are quite closely related to each other..
• More distantly, all of these Irish/Welsh/English families are related to an anonymous man living in Sardinia, he was part of a scientific study and he is known by the code ERS256272. The common ancestor between the Irish families and the Sardinian man is calculated to have lived 5400 years ago. The Sardinian man and the Irish men are all PF6947+ and they also are positive for Z27396 and 8 additional SNPs.
• For many years people speculated that the I-M26 group in Ireland, Sardinia, France etc represented the "megalith builders" spreading their culture around the Atlantic parts of Europe. I thought this was very fanciful, and I thought it was equally likely that my I-M26 ancestors had been in Ireland even longer. But this match with the Sardinian man seems to show that our ancestors were not in Ireland 5400 years ago, instead they were in Sardinia, or more more likely somewhere like France or Spain. And our paternal ancestors seem to have arrived in Ireland over 4000 years ago. So it now seems certain that our particular branch of I-M26 was not among the earliest hunter gatherers to arrive in Britain and Ireland, but instead came later, and in fact could have been part of the people who built the megaliths.

Ana Bavocius / Butkus / Vaicilius of Maigai

Here's a quick pass at the history of Anna Balvocius, my great-grandmother's sister.  I'm posting this as she has some living relatives and I'm looking to share the timeline. If you have any additional information, post it up into the comments here! I'll be adding and mmodifying some goodies into here and will note revisions at the end. 28 July 1890 - Ona Balvočiūtė was born 28 of July, 1890 in Maigai village Viekšniai parish and was baptize 1 of August in Viekšniai Catolic curch. Parents were peasants Leonas Balvočius and Ona, maiden name Petrauskaitė. God parents were Jonas Voveris and Uršulė Petrauskienė….

16 Jan 1907 - Ona and Amelia "Balwoczus" (polish spelling of Balvocius) arrive inbouncd at Ellis Island on the SS Ryndam. Heading to see brother Kazimer Balwacz ( he later changes his name to Charles Bauch ) at 205 Ave C, NYC. List themselves as from "Wecheney". They are detained for lunch (2 meals) and release to Brother Kazimer at 215 Ave C, NYC. Detaining women travelling alone was a common practice.

06 Feb 1910 - Marries Mikolas Butkus. Butkus lives at 55 S 1st Str, Brooklyn, age 24 ( 1910-24=1886 ), single, laborer, from Lithuania. His parents are John and Mary Mikusis. Anna is also living at 55 S 1st St, age 20 ( 1910-20=1890 ), Lithuanian, mother Anna Petrauskas and father was Leo. Married at St Mary's Queen of Angels, 213 S 4th Street, Brooklyn, NY by Vincent Varnagios. Witnesses Jurgis Kaiurtis and Juozas Jodneucius. 

12 Nov 1911 - Helen M Butkus is born in Brooklyn, NY

22 April 1922 - Michael Butkus dies at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, age 36, tailor. Birthplace Germany. In NYC 15 yrs. Father John Butkus of Germany, and Mary Brindolis of Germany (weird stuff with Lith / German borders at this time) of a ruptured gastric ulcer, endrocartitis, and mycarditis, contributed to by surgery to rapir. Buried at Calvalry Cemetary at 231 Bedford Avenue. Resident at 07 Scholes Street, Brooklyn (Scholes is a major residence point for the Balvocius )

27 Nov 1922- Marries Kasimir Vaiciulis - photo of the event here - my grandmother is in this photo as well - the little girl on the lower right side.

23 Feb 1929 - Resident as Ana Vaigiulem, 327 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn from daughter's SS America inbound ship record with husband Michael Sobenko.

1930 - Resident at 12 Scholes Street, Brooklyn - with daughter Helen Sobenko nee Balvocius, son in law Mike - US Census

25 April 1931 - Departs USA for Lithuania

31 July 1931 - Departs Rotterdam for NYC on the SS Statendam.

8 August 1931 - Arrives NYC Ellis Island. Inbound address listed as 168 Grand Street, Brooklyn - listed as from Mazekiai to Brooklyn. Name here is Ona (Anna) Vaiciulis (iene). Huband K. Vaicilius, Vilkai / ?Ciuielsiu Lithuan stayed behind. Home listed as 168 Grand St, Brooklyn….

21 Oct 1931 - Petition for Citizenship submitted - Anna Vaiciulis - 21 Scholes St, Brooklyn, tailoress. Born in Viekeniai. Husband Kasmir Vaiciulis b Zarena Lithuania in 1889 and is residing in Zarena at this point. Helen Sobenka mentioned here and is residing in Great Neck. Witnesses Joseph Mokola of 105 S 3rd St and Victor Backis of 12 Scholes

18 August 1932 - Petition for citizenship denied by Judge Campbell for lack of knowledge

20 Feb 1937 - Departs usa (from a 1938 ship record) for Zarinai / Zidikai Lithuania where husband Kasimir is

12 July 1938 - Departs Bremen for New York. Heading from Zarinai Lithuania to Great Neck, NY. Hausfrau. Ellen Helen and Helen Sobenko on same ship headed to Greatneck NY. Getting out of Lithuania, prob due to WWII issues.

18 July 1938 - Arrived port of New York - "from" address is husband Kazys Vaiciulis, Zarinai/Lithuania, Vilkisiai - inb to son Mikol Sobenko, 59 Van Nostrand Avenue, Great Neck NY . Place of birth is listed as MAIGAI. Note she is an alien here as she never received citizenship. Children travelling on same ship, listed as US Citizens.

On 59 Van Nostrand in Great Neck, Anna is never listed on either the 1930 or 1940 census at this address. The property is occupied by Amelia and Stanislaus Metskas. Amelia is Anna's sister. Eventually 59 Van Nostrand is occupied by Eufemija "Fanny" Saulys / Cibas / Stponaviscius, who comes over as a displace person after WWII. Fanny is the grand-daughter of Barbara Balvocius, who went back to Lithuania in the 1930s and never came back. But that's a different story.
